Welcome to BKLYN NINNI!

Welcome to BKLYN NINNI!

If you're here, it's probably because of my TikTok account! I started my account during the pandemic, posting a few videos, mostly of my cat, and then didn't post for a year or so. I had been spending a lot of time on TikTok watching home reno videos, so when I bought my first apartment I decided to document the happenings. These didn't really reach many people, which was totally fine, but I was having fun making them. Then I stopped posting. I had a bad experience with someone that I thought I was good friends with and no longer wanted to share my life online.

I entered into a light depressive period. Luckily, I have a great therapist and psychiatrist and was able to get out of the worst of it and continued putting myself out there on the dating apps. This is relevant, I swear! I think most of us know how hard online dating is, and just dating in general, and I was getting to the point where I was going to call it quits for a while. I matched with a curly haired fellow named Thomas. He messaged me. In Swedish (which hi, I'm from Sweden)! I wasn't expecting this because nowhere on his profile did he say he was Swedish. I broke out my rusty Swedish and we set up our first date and we hit it off. This was over two years ago and now we live together with our little cat Olive. Ok, so why is this relevant? Thomas knew that I knew how to sew, I had fixed a pair of jeans for him. He was waxing poetic about he can't find some pants that he likes and then he said, "hey, you know how to sew, could you make me some?"

The rest, as they say, is history. I got a new sewing maching, whipped up two pairs of pants and my sewing passion was completely reignited. I made a few things over the summer for both of us and then one weekend while visiting Thomas's parents in Maine, I was alone for the weekend with all the cats (mine and theirs) and decided, hey why not share what I'm making on TikTok? And oh man, did I end up finding my people on TikTok! The app gets so much hate, especially in my age group (hi, I'm in my 30s), but what I found was a group of fellow sewists and crafters that loved what I was doing and showed me so much love and generosity.

Now to this site. Ever since I was a little kid, I've been obsessed with the idea of running a business of selling stuff. I definitely suffer from scaredy cat syndrome, if I can fail why would I possibly do it? Last year I decided a very low risk way to try out an idea was to sell a sewing journal on Amazon KDP. I enjoyed filling out my own and some of your purchased it (thank you!), but I realized it could be so much better. I talked to Thomas about it and asked if he would be game to let me bounce some ideas off of him and he pushed me to make a really amazing new version of the BKLYN NINNI sewing journal. While in the creative mode of designing the new journal I got a couple of other ideas, which you will see on here also. I want BKLYN NINNI to be a place where sewists and quilters can come to celebrate their work by documenting their creations in a beautiful journal, but also adding a little extra pizzaz to their workrooms and projects with our other offerings.

I can't wait to build this business with you all in mind and thank you so much for being here!

❤ Renée

Hi I just stumbled on to your page by accident. I’m in the somewhat same boat as you except I’ve been to scared to actually post anything or put up my site. I love sewing historical outfits and making watercolor paints and painting. Friends keep telling me I should start an online store but haven’t made the leap.. seeing yours and reading your story is so inspirational. Thank you

Just found you on Pinterest. I love your site and your products, especially the sewing journal I’m about to purchase! Loved reading your story and how you ended up here. I am a fellow sewist who loves creating new pieces and selling them, but I also truly enjoy discovering other artists. Good luck to you on your creative journey, and I look forward to getting my sewing journal in the mail!🩷
