Heart Quilt

Heart Quilt

For those of you that follow me on TikTok, know that this week was quite a week. I was laid off and had a lot of mixed feelings about it. There was excitment on what would be next for me but also anger and sadness of what happened to myself and my colleagues. We had worked tirelessly to build the company and I think a lot of us felt tossed aside. I spent a lot of my week hitting the ground running and working on finding that next gig but also trying to help my colleagues wherever I could.

I had been planning on working on this quilt earlier in the week but was understandably distracted but spent nearly the whole day on Thursday finishing this. This is the Infinite Heart Quilt pattern by Quilty Love. This was a super solid pattern and would definitely recommend it to a beginner. I was meant to add a border to the top and bottom but when laying it out: 1. I didn't think it was needed and 2. I always seem to get amnesia whenever I buy backing fabric I get slightly less than needed, so it worked better this way. What this meant though is that the cute backing fabric of running bunnies goes the oppositie direction of what I would have liked, but this is negligible.

This project was nearly all scraps, including the background fabric. The only bought fabric for this was the backing fabric and fabric for the binding. I was able to use leftover batting from my last quilt, so this turned into a very affordable project. I always get so happy when I find fun and beautiful ways to use up my scraps as I really can't hold onto the scraps forever living in a small apartment in NYC, but I also get terrible anxiety thinking about throwing out scraps. I used my homemade basting spray again which I made from a recipe by String & Story. I will say I don't think this is my best quilting because I was having trouble deciding on the spacing and was slightly inconsistent but hey, it's still so cute.

This will be going to my friend Allison who is having a baby girl. She's my first close friend to have a baby and it's so crazy to think that not that long ago we were living in what felt like the world's tiniest two bedroom in Williamsburg and now she's having a baby! I can't wait for her baby shower!

xoxo Renée
