Bubblegum Pink Suit

Bubblegum Pink Suit

I am so proud of this make! I spent the past month working on this pink suit, which is the most time it's taken me to do any sewing project. I spent a total of 33 hours (maybe more!) spread over 10 days. I left my old job and started a new one during this period AND got engaged! I had to find pockets of time to work on this, usually 5 hours here and there after work and a bit on the weekends. As much as I want to spend all weekend sewing, I do want to make sure that I am making time for my fiancé and friends, which meant this took me longer than typical. I am also in grad school, but it was a light month, which was great because I didn't need to dedicate as much time to homework.

Now to the details! The jacket and pant patterns are both from Bella Loves Patterns. I've used their patterns before (my birthday outfit and the vest) so I knew the quality and finishes of these patterns would be top notch, and they were! The jacket is the Fran Blazer and the pant is the Billy Trouser. The Fran is expert level and it was a nice stretch for me, but honestly didn't feel too crazy, but I'm sure there were some things I could have done better! Thomas thinks the button placement on the jacket is a little funny, but I followed the pattern and didn't mind it. The pants were a breeze compared to the jacket. I didn't even do a mock up for these and they fit like a glove (looking at the finished measurements for the win!). It took me one day of sewing to get these 95% done and I wrapped up the hem and the front button the following morning. I used the invisible hem setting on my machine which took a little bit of trial and error but overall happy with the result and not having to hand sew! If you are curious about the fabric, it's a beautiful moiré from B&J Fabrics. I couldn't find the buttons online, but I got them from Pacific Trimming in the garment disctrict here in NYC.

I can't wait for a good occassion to wear this suit!

xoxo Renée
