One thing I didn't mention in the final TikTok video was the inspiration behind this outfit. I saw this cute set from & Other Stories a little while back and thought it would be really fun do to my own take on it.
I spent a long time at B&J fabrics looking their selection of embroidered silks and right about were some solid cotton blend moirés and I thought the emerald green was especially beautiful and surprisingly easy on the wallet (it comes in 22 colors!) Of course it wasn't embroidered but I thought I could possibly hand embroider it or use my Brother machine to embroider it instead or simply leave it plain. I did a hand embroidered swatch and decided that a. I wasn't good enough and b. it would be such a pain. I ended up using my Brother machine to embroider two different flower patterns using files I found on Etsy (this is a commissionable link) and I used flower 3 and 18 in size mini.
For the sewing patterns I went with two from Bella Patterns. The jacket is the Freddie Jacket and the skirt is the Dulce Skirt. Both patterns were great quality AND come in short versions which was great for me! I would say the skirt is totally doable for beginners but the jacket was advanced. I would even go as far as to say it's the most diffucult pattern I've done but I was super happy with the result and was able to learn some new techniques!
I can't forget to mention the lining fabric! This was also from B&J and wasn't in store when I was there but they ordered it in from the warehouse and I was able to grab it the next business day. I can't say enough nice things about B&J. Their staff are lovely and helpful and they have a wonderful selection of garment fabrics. My boyfriend gets stressed out at Mood, but really enjoys how organized B&J is, so I usually take him there first whenever we're working on a project for him.
